The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes

The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes - Neil Gaiman, Malcolm Jones III, Karen Berger, Sam Kieth, Todd Klein, Mike Dringenberg When he was invited to write a comic for DC, Neil Gaiman reached deep to write about a little known character, Sandman. Preludes and Nocturnes is the compilation of the first eight issues in which Sandman is captured, eventually breaking free decades later, and then sets out to recover the trappings of his office. The illustrations are very well done, dark and horrific. The story at first was clunky and I struggled to maintain an interest, however by the last two issues the story came into it's own as Neil Gaiman found the right voice. I am hooked now and will definitely continue to read the further issues.
